On June 1st, 2019 I received this email from the Canadian Yoga Alliance.
Looking over the multitude of yoga certificates we now have on file:-); would you be happy with an upgrade to CYA-E-RYTGOLD? This is our highest designation of 1000 hrs. (and over) and with over 1000 teaching experience. I certainly think it is a good choice given your training and experience.
Covid has changed the way I can teach yoga and Pilates. Until our community centers reopen I will be doing ONLINE YOGA AND PILATES CLASSES.
Hope you can join me, Gail
If you don't already know, Holness Yoga and Guest Suites sold last December 2018 and we're on a new and exciting journey this year. I've returned to teaching in town and I absolutely love. Working from home can leave you feeling isolated and I did. Now it's a treat to go for a coffee after class and catch up with everyone. I love teaching at the community centre for just that reason - it's the centre of the community! I'm looking forward bringing yoga to more people than ever before.
We've been working with the crew at Quantum Passivhaus all winter. Fabienne has been a pleasure to work in the design process of our new home. She is always available to help with question and concerns. She seems to guide us effortlessly through design issues that inevitably arise. Angie is our energy efficiency go to. Smart and quick to offer information to ensure that we are making the right choices. Building a new home can be a stressful undertaking. These two women were there to work with me during those times. For that I am grateful to both of them.
We've been busy (Mike's been busy) with the help of friends, clearing our 800' driveway to our little 1,000 square foot passive home that we'll be building this summer with the help of Quantum Passivhaus https://www.quantumpassivhaus.com/home in Minden. The hope is that by sometime in August we'll have the shell of our home in its place, nestled in the middle of our hard wood forest. We are so looking forward to meeting our new home!
It's been a wonderful summer and a great building experience so far. Gerald Sharp (Sharp Electric) was quick to respond to all our questions. He had our hydro line in the ground by early July.
Glen Sharp from Thomas Contracting has been a star this summer. He's always there when we need him and his crew has been working non-stop to prepare our site and install our septic system.
Sean Vick, Debler Well Drilling, is another star. We called him on a Thursday he showed up on Friday evening and before noon on Saturday we had a 245' well with clear, odourless water spraying out!
Thomas Contracting has installed our septic. It's been an absolute pleasure working with Scott and Joe. They are both hard working and skilled at what they do.
Quantum Passivhaus had their guys Josh and Wes came out to string out the layout of our home so that Nathen and Cam from Better Value Plumbing, could do the rough in for the drains and water lines. These guys all worked really well together to ensure that once the slab is poured we have everything in the correct place.
I'll keep you posted!
Thank you for dropping by for a visit. Please take your time and look around. I am happy to answer any questions you might have.

What's new for June
I heard what you said and I am changing our start times. Now that the sun is rising earlier you want your classes to start earlier too. Well not all of them! Seems our Monday morning chat and relaxing yoga class are perfect the way they are. What's changing is our Energizing Yoga and Toning Yoga classes. Instead of starting at 9:30, they will now begin at 9:00 and our meditation will follow at 10:00. Speaking of meditation, this month our focus is moving from mindlessness to mindfulness using the Buddhist tradition of Bhavana which translates as cultivation. We will learn how to cultivate and shape our minds to improve our overall happiness and well being based on "An introduction to meditation by Profesor Mark Muesse
What's New for May
Over the last few months, we have been deepening our meditation, focusing on positive thinking, incorporating mudras, or hand postures into our practice. This month I would like to focus on our thoughts. Our brain likes to be busy and when it's not evolution has programmed it to move toward negative thinking. As mankind evolved this natural tendency allowed us to have a heightened awareness of poisonous berries, plants, insects, snakes, etc as well as any other threat that might be lurking around the corner. We live in a different world today where the most feared predators are invisible, some are real and some exist only inside our heads. Some we know we are thinking about and some seem to be intrinsic. The thoughts we are aware of can be questioned and reasoned with. The intrinsic thoughts go unchecked and unchallenged but still generate emotions which cause us to fight, flight or freeze. It’s time to bring those thoughts into light so we can use our thinking brain to challenge them
What's New for April - Mudras & Meditation
Vaccines are rolling out and some of you have gotten your first shot while others are waiting their turn. We are beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel. The arena in Haliburton is being used to administer vaccinations from now until September which means our live classes there had to be canceled. Therefore April will see the continuation of online classes.
Yoga isn't really yoga without meditation. Our postures are simply one piece of the puzzle and they focus on the body. Meditation focuses on our brain, our mind, and the connection between mind and body. I am very happy to say that we will be continuing our meditation classes through April and we will begin to explore the use of mudras, or hand postures used in meditation. Mudras are a tool used to help us on our inward journey and
recharge and direct our energy flow.
March - Focus on Positive Thinking and Meditation
The days are getting longer, the sun is getting stronger, soon the snow will melt away and mother nature will blossom once again. This is the perfect time to begin to focus on positive thinking and meditation. It's time to plant the seeds for our future. It's time to transform how we think and open our minds to new possibilities by washing away old thought patterns and beliefs.
Join me as we create the future of our dreams.
February - Focus on the Heart Center
It's hard not to think of the heart when you think of February. For that reason, we will be focusing on our heart center, the Anahata. We will explore, our thoughts and emotions and look at the effects they have on our hearts and our well-being. Together we will unlock the powerful energy of the heart chakra to enrich our lives.
Our Accessible Yoga Classes have turned out to be a great way for me to better explain postures and give you modifications so that you can enjoy even the most challenging postures. In yoga we are always moving in the direction we want to go. It's about exploring your body as it moves into different shapes and stopping to notice the sensations along the way.
Our Quickie Yoga Class has been another pleasant surprise. These short classes are great for introducing new moves and sequences. Because they only take a few minutes it is easy for you to practice them throughout the day/week. This month will see more movement to encourage you to increase your heart rate, which will help lift your spirits and nourish your brain.
My upload speed is not quite what it should be and for that reason,
I have adjusted the price of the classes.
Please continue to share your thoughts with me.
I listen and I thank you!
